That is what the unforgettable Brazilian champion Gustavo Kuerten, former N. 1 and three-time Roland Garros winner, said about winning and losing. Tennis is one of the most difficult sports ever, not just physically but especially in mental terms. Any tennis player, at any level, knows that a match is never just a challenge against the opponent, but especially against himself – he knows the importance of managing his own power and emotions, the need to make the right choices at the right time and to have a positive and consistent mental approach in order to win.

For this reason, especially in the last years, the role of the sport mental coach has become essential in high-level athlete teams. Today the mental approach is considered as important as the physical and technical aspects in sports training programs. Almost all the current top-100 of ATP and WTA circuit, for example, have relied on mental coaches in order to obtain more confidence in themselves and in their potential.

The mental coach Mary Corcetti, born in Turin but now living in Robecco sul Naviglio, near Milan, knows the world of tennis for a long time, beginning as a player in 1981. Affiliate member of FIT, PTR, MTMCA CSEN and GPTCA ATP Certified, Mary has served as executive in an important private sports facility for several years.

Mary has just attended the prestigious Bob Brett Tennis Academy in Sanremo, where sheworked with the international coach Bob Brett. The experience gained in the world of tennis in recent years joined the passion for mental coaching.

Mary attended schools and NLP Coaching, obtaining the following international certifications:

– MENTAL TOUGHNESS c/o HPI (Human Performance Institute Dr. Jim Loehr), one of the most best mental and performance coaching school in the world, headquartered in Orlando, Florida (USA).

– GPTCA ATP Certified International Coach, collaborating with coaches Alberto Castellani and Pat Remondegui

– TENNIS MENTAL COACH c/o Scuola Superiore Psicologia dello Sport (SSPS)

– Coaching Essential, Practitioner and Master Practitioner c / o NLP ITALY Coaching School

Mary began to carry out mental coaching sessions and tennis clinic in clubs and academies in Italy, and many are now scheduled, also abroad. “The mental training is for everyone – she explains –, it’s not just for pro tennis player but also for amateurs of any age – and for tennis coaches too”. The tennis session is particularly recommended for tennis schools and academies, where Mary offers her training to enrich the technical and athletic program of the SAT School Tennis Training.

“The goal is to bring out the full potential of the player on the court, trying to analyze his power and his weakness by stimulating his motivation and his resilience and helping him to achieve the awareness of his limitations”. The session is developed in a tested program that includes theoretical and practical aspects, with also physical and mental exercises to be undertaken before, during and after the competition.

One of the most recent mental clinics was held last June at the Tennis Club Valentano, in the province of Viterbo: it was a success beyond all expectations.

“The mental healing as a tennis player, the development of confidence in himself and in his skills should be a priority for those who want to win in this sport, “- says Mary. The professional figure of mental coach is increasingly in demand because essential for the sportsman in order to achieve his goals. Moreover, mental coaching can be very useful for everyone in private and professional life”.
